That was a warm sunny day in Boracay. On top of our bucketlist was to get a good brunch before we get busy on the beach. We knew exactly where to go. While planning our trip and searching through websites, I came across this all-day breakfast restaurant called Lemoni Café and Restaurant.
It was easy to find. As it said in its website, just walk in to D’ Mall in Station 2, and look for the ferris wheel. So we did, and there it was right across the colorful ferris wheel, busy with customers.
Cool and Happy Vibes
The first thing that caught my attention was the cool atmosphere of the cafe. It’s open on two sides, a setup that I liked for two things—first, it’s well-ventilated; second, I had no chance getting bored while waiting for the food, because I could watch the people coming and going. I also loved the colors. The walls and chairs were clean white, the tables cream, and the overhead lamps bright green. Vases with fresh flowers make the centerpiece of the tables. By the entrance is a green wall with colorful plants.
More Than A Decade
Lemoni Café has been in Boracay for 12 years. Managed by Australian Sarah LaBrooy and Swedish chef Julia Lervik, the café has earned top reviews from customers, because of its healthy gourmet cuisine, refreshing beverages, and to-die-for desserts. Besides excellent food, the entire Lemoni staff also delivers consistently great service—no matter how busy they get.
It’s for guests who enjoy “a high standard of professional service from the heart”, their brochure says. True enough, everyone in the café was happy and courteous. And their food—healthy, zesty, and vibrant—deserves a standing ovation. I wasn’t surprised to learn that they were awarded as Best Restaurant by Philippine Tatler for five years straight!
What to Order at Lemoni
Their servings were generous. We were careful not to overeat, so we picked just a few items from the menu, which includes salads, soups, pastas, risottos, sandwiches, and all-day breakfasts.
We sipped some detox shakes while waiting. They were normal shakes, only with exciting twists. We got red beet, carrot, apple, ginger (P240) and watermelon, ginger, lemon (P150). They were great! The red beet had some aftertaste, but knowing they’re healthy combos, we give it a five-star rating.
My favorite was their homemade Pinoy tapa (P380), one of their more than 15 items in the All-Day Breakfast list. I liked the flavorful, sweet-salty beef strips which has just the right toughness for meat. With two sunny-side up eggs, mixed fruits and atchara on the side, that tapa was definitely a big plate.
From the main courses, we randomly picked the vegetarian red fried rice (P400), which comes with omelet strips, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, broccoli, herbs, pineapple, and ginger. I wanted some saltiness in the whole thing, but the mix of flavors and the texture of the ingredients somehow engaged me the whole time I was on it.
From the big salads list, we got poached egg, bacon, and smoked fish dressed with lemon vinaigrette (P450). It was a colorful, healthy salad filled with the crunchiness of fresh greens and bacon. The milky smoked fish added to the rich taste of the ingredients.
Of course, they got one menu dedicated for sweets and baked goodies. We got this to complete the experience. It was impeccably made.
In such a short time we spent at Lemoni, we were able to experience only great service and great food. Although a bit pricey for a traveler on budget, the taste, quality, and serving size speak for the price. The reviews were accurate, it’s hard not to fall in love with Lemoni. Next time we find ourselves in Boracay, we’ll definitely be back in Lemoni to treat ourselves to something special.
